Outdoor Recreation Faciliites Inventory

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) is developing a master plan for Land of the Yankee Fork State Park. This document will help guide the management and development of the park for the next 20 years.

Land of the Yankee Fork State Park, is more of a concept than a place. IDPR provides education and interpretation at the ghost towns of Custer and Bonanza, the Yankee Fork Gold Dredge, the old Custer Motorway, and the buffalo jump near Challis. The agency does not own any of those sites, which are mostly on U.S. Forest Service land. One site owned by the state is the old ghost town of Bayhorse, about 10 miles south of Challis and three miles off State Highway 75. IDPR also owns and manages the interpretive center at the junction of State Highway 75 and US 93 just south of Challis.

You’re invited to participate in the process. Just follow these steps:

1

Take a few minutes to learn about the park and the way it’s managed today. Clicking the link will open another window.

2

Think about a major new opportunity at the park. IDPR has acquired the old ghost town of Bayhorse and about 500 acres of nearby property. Preserving Bayhorse and providing new opportunities on associated land is a major focus of the master plan.

3

Take a quick survey that will let us know your thoughts about what kind of recreational activities would be appropriate in the park. The survey will also give you an opportunity to give us general or specific comments about the future of the park.

4

You can only take the survey once, but you’re welcome to contact the planning team at anytime with your comments.

5

Follow the process through to its conclusion using the tools below.
